Field Hockey Falls To James Madison in Final Road Contest

Harrisonburg, Va. – The Towson University field hockey team fell to James Madison in its final contest of the season on Sunday afternoon, 3-0. 

Despite the outcome, the Tiger defense had an impressive outing, as Lena Vandam made 14 saves while playing the entire game in net. Kasey Bubel also had one defensive save. 

Eveline Zwager, Emily Harrison and Caroline Cahill all scored goals for the Dukes.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • James Madison scored the first goal of the contest right as time expired in the first quarter.  
  • The Dukes scored again at 22:41 to take the two-goal lead. They held that lead into halftime.  
  • At the half, Vandam earned four saves. Aljets registered the one and only shot for the Tigers.  
  • JMU started off the third quarter with a goal to take the three-point edge.  
  • In the final 7:00, Towson had three penalty corner attempts that were all successfully defended by James Madison's defense.  
  • Kaiya Townsend Sabur got off a shot off within the final 2:00 but in the end the Dukes came out on top with the 3-0 win. 

BEYOND THE BOX 

  • Vandam made a season-high 14 saves in net, including six in the fourth quarter.  
  • The Tigers successfully defended 16 penalty corner attempts by The Dukes.  
  • Bubel registered one defensive save to bring her to four total on the season.  
  • Townsend Sabur led the team with two shots on goal.  

NEXT GAME 

Towson will return home to finish the 2021 spring season with a pair of games against Hofstra on Friday, April 16 at 3 p.m. and Drexel on Sunday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
