Towson Baseball Earns First Road Shutout Win Since 2013

ROCKVILLE, Md. – The Towson University baseball team used eight pitchers for its second shutout victory of the season, defeating Georgetown 4-0 in a Tuesday night contest.

Towson (11-21) earns its first road shutout victory since defeating George Mason 8-0 on April 14, 2013 in Fairfax, Virginia.

Towson wins its first mid-week game of the year in the first game against Georgetown (0-4) since 2014.  The Tigers scored runs in four different frames, beginning in the second, to get the victory.

Key Stats:
  • All eight Towson pitchers threw at least one scoreless inning.  Starter Nick Ramanjulu (1-4) got the victory, pitching the first two innings with one hit and a pair of strikeouts.  In succession, Nolan Bolt, Andalo Santangelo, Matt Watters, Jake Pecilunas, Cam Clark, Austin Weber and Kody Reeser completed the shutout.
  • On the hitting end, Noah Cabrera hit his second home run of the season, finishing 2-for-5.  Nick Brown also had a multi-hit day, going 2-for-3 with a double, walk and run scored.
  • For Georgetown, Michael Eze reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch.  Everett Catlett (0-1) got the loss in his start, throwing two innings with a run and three strikeouts.
How It Happened:
  • The top of the second saw Towson get back-to-back singles by Nick Brown and Jacob Terao, then Brown took third on a wild pitch.  Jake Lysaght reached on a throwing error at short, allowing Brown to score for a 1-0 Towson lead.
  • Towson's pitching staff held the shutout as in the top of the sixth, with a man on third, Javon Fields reached on a single to short, scoring Nolan Young for a 2-0 Towson advantage.
  • The Tigers added another in the seventh with a heads up play.  Runners on the corners and two out, Young was caught in a rundown between first and second.  Billy Godrick raced from third and stole home, pushing Towson up 3-0.
  • Towson added another in a big way in the top of the ninth.  Noah Cabrera battled the pitcher with the bases empty, and on the tenth pitch, sent a ball over the left field fence for a home run, giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead.  Kody Reeser entered in the bottom of the ninth and pitched a scoreless frame to secure the 4-0 victory.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Towson's first shutout win of the year came on March 20th, a 4-0 home victory over UMass.
Next Game:
Towson returns to Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend, hosting Northeastern for a four-game set.  First pitch is set for Friday, April 16th at 3 p.m.
