Tigers Hits Three Homers; Defeats Drexel Saturday Afternoon

PHILDELPHIA – The Towson University softball team picks up its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) victory Saturday afternoon after defeating Drexel 8-5 inside Drexel Softball Stadium.

Towson (12-14, 1-8 CAA) rallied back in the top of the seventh on two outs to take the lead over the Dragons (17-6, 6-2 CAA).
Lindsey Toneygay hit her second home run of the series in the bottom of the second. Lauren Ringhiser and Rylee Penrod each hit their first homeruns of the season.
Chloe Poulich went a perfect 4-for-4 leading the way for the Tigers.

How it Happened
  • Kristi DiMeo doubled down the left field line for an RBI giving Drexel a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • Toneygay hit a homerun in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1.
  • Linda Rush hit a two-run home run to make the score 3-1 in the bottom of the third.
  • Towson cut into that lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI single by Gracyn Houmis scoring Chloe Poulich who reached on a lead-off double.
  • In the top of the fifth, Ringhiser hit a two-run home run to center field to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.
  • Drexel scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.
  • Poulich reached base on a two-out double and Jess DaBreo brought her home on a single up the middle to tie the game 5-5 in the top of the seventh.
  • Penrod hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh to give the Tigers an 8-5 final.

The Tigers will host Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, April 21 for a mid-week doubleheader inside Tiger Softball Stadium. The first game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start with the second game beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
