TOWSON, Md. -- In its first Colonial Athletic Association matchup of the season, the Towson University softball (8-7, 0-1) team dropped the first of a three-game series against Hofstra (8-6, 1-0), 2-1.
Chloe Poulich led the Tigers with three hits and one RBI in four at-bats. Madison Wilson scored and contributed two hits while Lauren Ringhiser also added a hit. On the mound, Melissa Abrahamian saw 11 ground outs from her defense as well as three strikeouts.
Jaycee Ruberti batted in both of Hofstra's runs off a single hit in four at-bats. Kristen Hallam (2), Chelsea Manto (2) and Angelina Ioppolo also added hits. Madison Burns got her third win pitching for The Pride with 19 ground outs and two strikeouts.
How it Happened
- Hofstra came out strong with Ruberti grounding out to bring in Kristin Hallam and take the 1-0 lead.
- Towson answered as Wilson reached home after Poulich was thrown out at first.
- In the top of the third, Chelsea Manto singled to shortstop before stealing second. Ruberti doubled to bring Manto home and score the ultimate winning run of the contest.
- The Tigers made a late effort in the bottom of the seventh with runners in scoring position before Poulich grounded out to end the game.
Behind the Numbers
- Both teams totaled six hits each while Hofstra registered two errors to Towson's one.
- Abrahamian pitched seven innings, faced 30 batters and struck out three. She is now 3-2 on the season.
- Manto stole a game-high three bases for The Pride.
