TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team (8-9, 0-3) dropped both contests in Saturday's doubleheader against Hofstra (10-6, 4-1). The Pride took the first game, 14-6, and the second, 12-2.
Inside Tiger Softball Stadium, Mackenzie Lake led the Tigers with three RBIs between the two games and four hits. The freshman also hit three doubles as well as Cali Christopher who added one.
Jaycee Ruberti once against led Hofstra with five hits and five RBIs in seven total at-bats. Hofstra saw nine different players cross the plate on Saturday.
How it Happened – Game 1
- To start the first game, Ruberti singled to right field to bring in Kristen Hallam to score the first point of the contest.
- Towson answered and more as Madison Wilson and Cloe Poulich both scored runs to take the 2-1 lead.
- Hofstra came back and scored three runs in the second inning to take the 5-2 edge.
- From there, The Pride kept the bats rolling with four more runs in the fourth inning.
- Rylee Penrod brought Lake in, to make the score 9-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Both Hofstra and Towson scored in the fifth inning to end the frame with a score of 10-5.
- The Pride broke away with three hits and three runs in the sixth inning to take the eight-point lead heading into the last inning.
- Katie Capizzi scored the final run of the game for the Tigers as Wilson reached on an error.
- Alex Musial was the last to score for The Pride to make the final score 14-6.
Inside the Numbers – Game 1
- Madeline Harris pitched six innings for Towson with five strikeouts.
- Madison Schmalzle saw her first on-field action of the season. She pitched one inning and struck out one batter.
- Lake hit one double in addition to stealing two bases. She also earned three hits and two RBIs in game one.
How it Happened – Game 2
- Hofstra picked up where they left off, taking an early 3-0 lead.
- Towson got the bats going as Lake doubled to bring in Wilson to makes the score 3-1.
- In the second inning, Gracyn Houmis reached on an error to bring in Christopher and put the game within a single run.
- That would be the last run the Tigers would score however, as The Pride would go on to score nine runs to end the game in the fifth frame with a final score of 12-2.
Inside the Numbers- Game 2
- Melissa Abrahamian pitched four innings, getting six ground outs from her defense along with two strikeouts.
- Julia Jackson came in and faced six batters in one inning pitched.
- Lake and Christopher each hit a double, respectively. Christopher also led the squad with two hits in the second game.
