TOWSON, Md. – Towson University Athletics is proud to announce that student-athletes Lauren Coleman and Derek Gold were the department's nominees for the 2020-21 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Institutional Scholar-Athlete Awards.
 
Coleman was Towson's nominee for CAA Institutional Female Scholar-Athlete while Gold was the department's nominee for CAA Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete.
 
Coleman finished her undergraduate degree in business admin-leadership & management with a 3.56 GPA.  She has earned graduate certificates in marketing intelligence and interactive marketing plus is working on a third in supply chain management.  She was a 2020 All-American in indoor track in the shot put as well as the 2018 CAA Most Outstanding Female Field Athlete for the outdoor track team, currently holding five gold medals in field events in the 2021 outdoor season.
 
Gold has one of the top GPAs among Towson student-athletes with a 3.98 GPA as a sport management major and business administration minor.  He also serves as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) vice president.  For the men's golf team, he has competed in three events this season, including a top-25 finish in the Carpetbagger Classic back in March.
 
All 10 full-member CAA schools nominated each a female and male student-athlete for this award.  The awards were voted on by the CAA Academic Affairs Committee.
 
The winners of the 2020-21 CAA Institutional Scholar-Athlete Awards were Faith Anderson of JMU and Kyle Frankel of Elon.
