TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University Athletics marketing and fan experience staff were honored with a 2025-26 National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) Silver Award for Community Engagement, highlighting the department's historic Basketball Stem Day on Dec. 4, 2025.
Towson's annual Stem Day invites local schools for a day of basketball, promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics for a fun educational day. Every year, thousands of elementary and middle school students from around the area come to SECU Arena for educational opportunities around the SECU concourse and a great basketball game.
This year, Towson earned its first-ever sellout of SECU Arena with an attendance of 5,209. It is also the top attendance in Towson basketball history, surpassing Towson men's basketball vs. Michigan on Nov. 24, 1998 in the Towson Center with an attendance of 5,086.
Towson earned the silver medal award in Group II, which highlights DI FCS and non-football schools across the country. The award was announced at last week's annual NACMA Convention in Las Vegas.
"Towson University is a big part of the local community, and we love the opportunity to bring out students from across the Baltimore area and teach them about STEM related opportunities," said Towson Assistant AD for Marketing
Ari Bard. "Selling out SECU Arena for the first time in history could not have happened without the support of our fantastic marketing, sales and ticket operations team that assisted in making this a memorable experience for the 5,000+ students in attendance."
The NACMA awards are voted on by NACMA members across the country.
