BALTIMORE – State Employees Credit Union of Maryland (SECU MD) and Towson University announced a long-term partnership designed to strengthen financial wellness across the university community through educational programming, access to financial resources and meaningful campus engagement. This partnership expands and deepens the relationship between TU and SECU MD beyond the seven-year partnership that gave exclusive naming rights to SECU Arena that began in 2013, the university's 5,200-seat venue for athletics, sporting events, concerts, commencements and more.
As part of the collaboration, SECU MD will become Towson University's financial wellness partner, delivering educational programming, personalized financial resources and a new co-branded debit card available to students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters. The partnership will also include engagement opportunities across university athletics and campus life, creating new ways to connect financial education with everyday experiences.
Rather than focusing solely on banking products, the partnership is built around helping members of the Towson University community develop lifelong financial confidence from managing a first checking account and budgeting as a student, to preparing for homeownership, retirement and other major life milestones.
"This partnership reflects a shared belief that financial wellness is an essential part of personal and professional success," says David Sweiderk, president and CEO of SECU MD. "Together, we're creating opportunities to equip students with practical financial knowledge while also serving faculty, staff and alumni with trusted financial solutions throughout every stage of life. We're investing in people, not simply offering financial products."
The collaboration will feature:
- A co-branded university debit card
- Financial education presentations
- Digital financial wellness resources
- Campus events and student engagement initiatives
- Integration with university athletics and community programming
- Banking solutions tailored for students, faculty, staff and alumni
As higher education institutions continue to place greater emphasis on student success and well-being, financial literacy has become an increasingly important component of preparing graduates for life after college. Through this partnership, both organizations aim to reduce financial stress while empowering individuals to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.
"Education extends far beyond the classroom," says Mark Ginsberg, president of Towson University. "Financial confidence is a critical life skill, and we're proud to partner with SECU, an organization that shares our commitment to helping our students, faculty and staff thrive. This relationship represents an investment in the long-term success of our entire university community."
The partnership reflects both organizations' deep commitment to Maryland and their shared focus on strengthening local communities through education, opportunity and economic empowerment.
