Towson Baseball Downed by Navy, Snapping Win Streak

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team fell in a midweek battle vs. Navy 13-4 to conclude its six-game homestand.
 
Towson (10-18) scored two runs in the fourth to get within three, but Navy (8-3) scored eight unanswered to get the win.
 
Key Stats:
  • Noah Cabrera multi-hit on the day, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Javon Fields reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with a two-run double, run scored, two stolen bases and a pair of walks.
  • Towson starter Nolan Bolt (0-1), in his first start with the Tigers, got the loss with 2.2 innings thrown, allowing five runs, just two earned.  Justin Rebok, Kody Reeser, Matt Watters and Jake Pecilunas had scoreless outings from the bullpen.
  • For Navy, Colin Smith finished 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and three RBI, scoring twice.  Starter Jared Leins (1-0) picked up the win, going three no-hit innings with four strikeouts.
How It Happened:
  • The game started out as a pitching duel between starters Nolan Bolt and Jared Leins, with each allowing just one runner in scoring position in the opening two innings.
  • Navy took advantage of three free passes, an error and three two-out singles to score five runs and lead 5-0.
  • Following a scoreless inning by Justin Rebok, Towson picked up second and third with one away.  Javon Fields blasted a ball to the left-center gap for the double, bringing in Nolan Young and Noah Cabrera to get Towson's first pair of runs.
  • Navy added multiple runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth, expanding its lead to 13-2.
  • Towson had a late charge in the bottom of the ninth, beginning with Nate Mlls hitting a double to right-center and Fields reaching on an error.  Brandon Austin found the hole on the left side for a single to score Mills, then Fields scored next batter on a double play ball.  Towson did not get closer and fell 13-4.
Inside the Numbers:
  • This was the first contest between Towson and Navy since 2017.
  • Nolan Young has reached base in 13 consecutive games.
  • Noah Cabrera multi-hit for the second straight game while Javon Fields has hit safely in eight of his last nine contests.
