Towson Baseball Edged Late in Series Finale at Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Towson University baseball team had another close game against the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) North's first-place team, narrowly being edged late 3-1 at Northeastern.

Towson (15-29, 5-7 CAA) led vs. Northeastern (23-6, 11-0 CAA) after four innings and had a tie game going into the eighth.  The Huskies scored twice in the bottom of the eighth and held for the series sweep.

Key Stats:
  • Danny Madden started the game on the mound for Towson, going five innings with one run and two strikeouts in the no-decision, followed by scoreless innings from Cam Clark and Jake Pecilunas. The loss went to Andalo Santangelo (0-2), who had two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
  • At the plate, Billy Godrick went 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, scoring the team's lone run in the first.  Javon Fields also reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and a stolen base.
  • For Northeastern, Ian Fair had the go-ahead RBI triple in the eighth, finishing 1-for-4.  Starter Wyatt Scotti did not get a decision with seven innings, one run and seven strikeouts.  The reliever in the eighth, Jake Gigliotti (2-0) got the win while David Stiehl got his first save, each throwing a scoreless inning.
How It Happened:
  • Heads up baserunning from Billy Godrick gave Towson its first run in the opening inning.  Godrick was hit by a pitch, took second on a wild pitch, went to third on a fly out then scored during a rundown with a man in-between first and second.  Towson led 1-0 after the top of the first.
  • Danny Madden started with four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit in that span.  In the bottom of the fifth, NU scored with a sacrifice fly to even the game at 1-1.
  • Northeastern threatened with two runners on in each the sixth and seventh.  Cam Clark and Austin Weber pitched out of each respectively with no runs allowed to preserve the tie.
  • The Huskies got their first lead in the bottom of the eighth, piecing together a double, triple and sacrifice fly to go ahead 3-1.  Northeastern held for the 3-1 win.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Coming in the eighth inning, Jake Pecilunas made his 75th career appearance on the mound for Towson.
  • Javon Fields stole his 16th base today, which leads the team.
