Towson Baseball Overpowered by Northeastern in Series Opener

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team fell in the series opener against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) North leader Northeastern 15-2 on Thursday afternoon.
 
Towson (20-33, 10-11 CAA) fell victim to six Northeastern (31-8, 19-2 CAA) home runs on a very warm day at Schuerholz Park.
 
Key Stats:
  • Billy Godrick earned his 12th multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.  In his first career start, Nate Mills was 1-for-4 with a double.
  • Starter Josh Seils (3-6) got the loss, going 4.2 innings with seven runs, just four earned, with two strikeouts.  Reliever Cam Clark pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two batters.
  • For Northeastern, Jared Dupere hit two home runs, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBI.  Starter Cam Schlittler (7-0) notched the win with five innings, one run and five strikeouts.
How It Happened:
  • Northeastern's leadoff batter, Jeff Costello, hit a solo home run to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after inning one.
  • In the top of the third, Northeastern got the bases loaded with two out.  Max Viera knocked a line drive down the left field line for a double, clearing the bases for a 4-0 Northeastern lead.
  • Towson got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth.  With runners on the corners and one out, Jack McLaughlin reached on a fielder's choice to third, allowing a run to score to make it 4-1 Northeastern.
  • The next half-inning, Northeastern hit four solo home runs.  The Huskies added an RBI single in the sixth to lead 9-1.
  • Towson got a run back in the bottom of the sixth off a based loaded walk by Nick Brown to get the score to 9-2 Northeastern.
  • Northeastern added six runs in the final two innings and took the victory 15-2.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Josh Seils made his 34th career start at Towson, tying him for fifth all-time in program history.  He also has 143 career strikeouts pitched, two away from tying the top-10 in program history.
  • Jake Pecilunas made his 80th appearance on the mound, four shy from tying for the most ever in Towson history.
