Towson Baseball Falls to Northeastern in 2021 Home Finale

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team fell to Northeastern in the home finale 5-0 in the final game before the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament next week.
 
Towson (21-34, 11-12 CAA) falls in two of three to the CAA North champion Northeastern (32-9, 20-3 CAA).  This was the final home game for fifth-year seniors Alex Parker, Noah Cabrera and Kody Reeser
 
Key Stats:
  • Five Tigers hit safely in the game.  Matt Arceo was 1-for-2 from the nine-spot while Jacob Terao hit 1-for-3.
  • Starter Danny Madden (1-3) got the loss, going 4.1 innings with two runs and five strikeouts.  Cam Clark pitched a scoreless eighth inning, earning two strikeouts.
  • Northeastern hit three solo home runs in the game, including one for Jeff Costello, who hit 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  NU starter Sebastian Keane (5-1) won the game with six scoreless innings, striking out five.
How It Happened:
  • Northeastern got on the board in the opening frame, using a single, double and RBI ground out to get its first run.  Danny Madden settled down and kept the Huskies off the board in the next two innings.
  • Northeastern started using the long ball and hit three solo home runs in the final six innings, adding another run on an error to lead 5-0.
  • Towson's biggest threat came in the bottom of the fifth as back-to-back singles from Jack McLaughlin and Jacob Terao made it first and second with one out, but Northeastern got out of the inning without a run across.  Noah Cabrera got a ninth-inning single in an attempt to start a rally, but Towson fell 5-0.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Jake Pecilunas made his 81st career appearance on the mound, three away from tying the program record.
Next Game:
  • Towson is off to the CAA Tournament, hosted by UNCW.  The tournament begins on Wednesday, May 26, with the bracket being announced tonight.
