PHILADELPHIA — A goal from Page Reese gave the Towson University field hockey team a 1-0 win over La Salle on Friday afternoon. Reese secured her first score of the season in the18th minute to give the Tigers their first win of the fall season.
Goalkeeper Lena Vandam also added five saves to earn her first shutout as a Tiger.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Towson started the game with strong play on both sides of the ball. The team defended two penalty corners early and Kasey Bubel added a defensive save. In La Salle's zone, Gianna Antone got an early shot off.
- In the fourth minute of the second quarter, a shot from Reese trickled in to give the Tigers their first score of the game. Dom Nelson was credited with the assist.
- Towson then went on to successfully defend four consecutive penalty corners in the quarter to keep the lead.
- The Tigers transitioned out of their zone quickly and generated offensive chances but could not convert.
- In addition to Reese, Annie Keele also registered a shot on goal.
- La Salle turned the pressure up to start the second half, creating scoring opportunities but could not get past Vandam. The Towson defense was aggressive, earning several takeaways and clears in the third quarter.
- Vandam ended the third with five saves on 11 shots. True to her style, the goalkeeper came off her line frequently to bat away loose balls and clear the circle.
- The two teams started the final 15:00 by trading possessions. Elizabeth Haper and Antone had a solid scoring opportunity in a two-on-one situation but could not get the shot off.
- The Explorers answered with their own opportunity, as Sofia Pla landed a shot just over crossbar.
- In the final moments of the quarter, the Tigers' defense stood tough to defend three shots from La Salle.
- Towson took control of the game flow at the end to run out the clock and earn its first win of the fall season, defeating La Salle 1-0.
BEYOND THE BOX
- The 1-0 win signifies Towson 22nd all-time win over La Salle and third in a row. The victory also marks the first for the Tigers in nine contests, dating back to March 27, 2021 when the team defeated Northeastern, 3-1.
- Vandam earned five saves on 14 shots faced and her first shutout as at Towson.
- The Tigers successfully defended 10 penalty corners from La Salle. The Explorers attempted a game-high five corners in the second quarter.
- Reese's goal marks just the second of her career and first of the season. She scored her first career goal against the Huskies in the spring. The assist from Nelson was also the first of her career.
- Bubel registered her fifth defensive save of the year to continue to lead the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) while freshman Madisyn Howard added her first career defensive stop in the second quarter.
- Three green cards were handed out in Friday's battle, two to Towson (Hannah McKeon and Sarah Hatfield) and one to La Salle (Hannah Yanovich).

Towson will stay in Philadelphia to face Penn on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. in its last nonconference road contest of the season.
