PHILADELPHIA — The Towson University field hockey team could not rebound after an early Penn goal in the opening minutes of play to ultimately fall, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Annie Keele helped to lead the offensive charge for the Tigers, registering one shot and one shot on goal. Lena Vandam ended the game with nine saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Penn got a shot off early to start the game and in the seventh minute found the back of the net to get an early 1-0 lead.
- The Quakers took four shots in the first 15:00 with two on goal. They also attempted one unsuccessful penalty corner.
- To start the second, Towson forced the ball into Penn's zone early but couldn't convert.
- The Tigers had a good opportunity in the ninth minute which resulted in a corner. Kasey Bubel got a shot off but did not get the score.
- Vandam made a great save, cutting off the angle of Sydney Huang on a Penn corner. Although the goalkeeper was only credited with three saves at the end of the half, she roamed the circle knocking away balls and stopping attacks.
- As the third quarter got underway, Penn kept up the pressure but Towson's defense stood tough, defending three shots and two corners in the first five minutes.
- Head coach EA Jackson's daughter, Maddie Fagan of Penn, generated quite a few offensive chances but couldn't convert.
- Jenna Florenzo carried the ball into the Quakers circle and while she couldn't get it past goalkeeper Sabien Paumen, she did create the Tigers' second corner opportunity of the game. Gianna Antone and Hannah McKeon both registered shots off the attempt.
- In the final moments of the third, Annie Keele got a great look but was stopped by an impressive Paumen stick save.
- The Tiger defense kept up their strong play in the fourth, stopping two corners and shots early to keep the game within reach.
- In the fourth minute of play, Towson was awarded a penalty corner that was ultimately overturned.
- To end the contest, Towson played well on both sides of the ball but couldn't get the equalizer it needed.
BEYOND THE BOX
- Towson successfully defended 10 Penn penalty corners including seven in the third quarter.
- Vandam collected a game-high five stops in the third quarter on her way to nine total saves. Penn goalkeeper Paumen earned a single save in net.
- The Quakers out shot the Tigers 14 to five but only scored once. The Tiger defense successfully stopped a contest-best seven shots in the third.
- Bubel, McKeon and Parkinson played the entire 60 minutes of the contest.
