Women’s Swimming and Diving Dominates Loyola

BALTIMORE – Despite competing for the second time in less than a week, the Towson University women's swimming and diving team took care of business Wednesday afternoon, dominating Loyola 179-120 at Mangione Pool.

The midweek victory marked the Tigers 15th straight win over the Greyhounds since the 2002-03 campaign. Towson (3-4) picked up big days from Parker Schulz, who accounted for two individual wins and two relay victories, while Hailey Ritter added an individual and relay win while aided in a relay second-place finish with an individual second-place as well. Alyssa Largay won both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions.

How it Happened
  • Towson led from the first gun of the day, taking the 200-yard medley relay in 1 minute, 46.40 seconds with an A Team of Schulz, Tiffany Matulis, Hailey Ritter and Maddie Mince. Towson's B Team of Victoria Dichak, Katie Nunez, Ava Enriquez and Meagan Clark in a time of 1:48.59.
  • The lone Tiger in the 1000 yard freestyle relay, rookie Bridget Thomas swam away with the event, finishing first in 10:37.28, her fastest time this week in the event. Thomas won by nearly seven full seconds.
  • Schulz picked up first-place points in the 200-yard freestyle, out-touching Dichak. The former won with a 1:57.69 while the latter was just behind at 1:57.93.
  • Ritter picked up her win in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 58.20, her second-fastest in the event this year. Julia Ali took fourth in 59.82.
  • Matulis captured the 100-yard breaststroke, winning the event in 1:06.66, a gap of more than two seconds over second. Holly Greenleaf was the second Tiger in with a 1:09.59, good enough for fourth place.
  • It was a Towson sweep in the 200-yard butterfly as Karlee Carminati picked up the win at 2:08.37. Mince and Samantha Casolo finished inside of one second behind Carminati, Mince going in 2:08.50 and Casolo in 2:09.14.
  • The 50-yard freestyle was close with Mince finishing second in 24.40, less than two-tenths of a second from first place (24.28). Nunez took third with a 24.47.
  • Entering the 3-meter diving competition, Largay won the event for the fourth time this season. The NCAA Zone Diving qualifier scored a 289.20, a season-best for the sophomore. Fellow Zone qualifier Christina Coleman took second (263.02) as Sarah DiGaetano finished third with a 249.44. Freshman Abby O'Leary helped Towson to a 1-2-3-4 finish with a 235.28, her second-best score of the season.
  • Ritter picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, a race decided by just one-tenth of a second. The Tiger finished in 53.71, trailing Loyola's Fay Moser's time of 53.61. Mince finished fourth in 54.47.
    Schulz picked up her second win of the day, taking the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.22, nearly a full second ahead of second. Maddie Frick grabbed third in 2:08.77, just a tenth of a second back from second.
  • Greenleaf finished second overall in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching in 2:29.96 to hold off a late charge. Nunez was in fourth in the race with a 2:30.95 to her credit. It was Greenleaf's second sub-2:30 race in the last week after going 2:28.88 at James Madison on Saturday.
  • The Tigers picked up another 1-2-3 finish in the 500-yard freestyle as Clark came in first with a 5:00.53, her second-fastest swim of the season. Thomas finished her double-distance day with second place in 5:10.29 while Suzannah Mills took third in 5:13.58.
  • Enriquez took third in the 100-yard butterfly, stopping the clock in 58.50. Dichak took fifth in 59.98.
  • Back in the diving well, Largay finished a double win day with a 284.39 on the 1-meter board, adding eight points to her previous season best (278.10). Coleman took her second runner up of the day with a 257.17 as DiGaetano finished third with a 254.53.
  • Dichak finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:12.50 as Maddie Frick finished fifth in 2:13.57.
  • Towson rounded out the win with a pair of top finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The top grouping of Nunez, Mince, Enriquez and Schulz finished in 3:34.36 while the B squad of Clark, Ritter, Thomas and Carminati was just a second behind at 3:35.50. Loyola's top team was four seconds behind Towson's second quartet.
Behind the Numbers
  • The Tigers bounced back from a set back at James Madison last weekend.
  • Towson has now won its last 15 meets against the Greyhounds, dating back to the 2002-03 campaign when the Tigers joined the CAA.
  • The Tigers have won their last 10 meets at Loyola's home pool.
  • Towson has dominated Charles Street in the last two decades, compiling a 25-0 combined mark against both Loyola (15-0) and Johns Hopkins (10-0).

  • The Tigers return to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action this Saturday with a trip to Philadelphia to take on the Dragons of Drexel University.
  • Meet time is set for a 10:30 a.m. start time and will serve as Drexel's senior meet.
