Towson's Offense Too Much for North Carolina A&T

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team went against the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Saturday afternoon in SECU Arena. The Tigers (15-0, 5-0 CAA) swept the Aggies (4-11, 0-5 CAA) 25-17, 25-14, 25-16.
 
Key Stats vs North Carolina A&T:
  • Towson totaled nine service aces for the second consecutive match.
  • The Tigers had a .347 hit percentage, including .767 percentage in the second set.
  • Towson had 36 kills on 36 assists for the first-time this season.
  • The Tigers registered ten blocks compared to only one for the Aggies.
  • Towson held the Pirates to a .027 hit percentage this afternoon including a -0.037 percentage in the first set.
 
How It Happened vs North Carolina A&T:
  • Towson took a 6-3 lead to open the first set, then scored five straight points to have a 11-3 lead. The Aggies responded with three points in a row, but the Tigers countered with three consecutive points themselves to maintain an eight-point gap.
  • The teams traded small runs to keep the lead at eight, then the Aggies closed the deficit to 22-16. Towson was able to close out the first set on a 3-1, including an ace by Katie McCracken to win the first set 25-17.
  • North Carolina A&T jumped out to a 4-1 lead to start the second set, but the Tigers were able to go on an 8-1 run to take a 9-5 advantage. The teams traded points, until Towson scored four unanswered to have a 16-8 lead.
  • The teams went back-and-forth, then Towson sealed the second set with a 5-2 run to win the set 25-14.
  • The Tigers got out to a 5-3 lead that was highlighted by a Rachel Hess service ace. Towson went on another 8-1 run to have a 13-4 lead. The teams traded points, then the Tigers had a 6-2 run to have a 22-9 lead, their biggest lead of the match.

Inside the Numbers vs North Carolina A&T:
  • Towson totaled double-digit blocks for the fourth time this year. Lydia Wiers had a season-high eight total blocks to lead the defense.
  • Five Tigers had five or more kills. Nina Cajic had seven kills on a .636 hit percentage and had three block assists.
  • Fay Bakodimou had a team-high nine kills for the third time in the last four matches. Bakodimou added seven digs, one ace, one assist and totaled a .412 hit percentage.
  • Sarah Jordan had 20 assists to have 20 or more assists in three of her last four matches. Jordan had two aces to extend her service ace streak to nine straight matches.
  • Katie McCracken totaled 13 assists and had two aces for the second straight match.
  • Towson earns their 12th sweep of the season and has won ten straight sets.
  • The Tigers improve to 15-0 and look to tie their best-ever start to a season tomorrow by going 16-0.

Towson will host the Aggies tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. then travel to Newark, Del. to face Delaware on Oct. 8-9 next weekend.
