Towson Field Hockey Falls in OT Clash with CAA foe Delaware

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team fell in a hard-fought match to perennial-powerhouse Delaware 2-1 in overtime Friday afternoon.

How it happened:
  • Samantha Aljets split the defenders in the scoring circle and found the back of the cage to get the scoring started in the fourth quarter.
  • Delaware evened the score off a corner in the following minute.
  • Tessa Scheenstra recorded 15 saves, including 13 in regulation.
  • While the game remained scoreless well into the fourth quarter, there was no shortage of action with 41 total shots including 23 on goal.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Marked the first game since 2010 the Tigers have forced overtime against Delaware.
  • Samantha Aljets has scored two goals in as many contests for the first time since scoring twice in one game versus La Salle in the Spring 2021 season (Mar. 21).
  • Tessa Scheenstra recorded 15 saves on 17 shots faced in the contest, marking her most saves in a game this season.
  • The 2022 team features six seniors who have been fixtures in the lineup since arriving on campus in September 2019. After 13 games this season, the six have combined to start 236 games. Georgia Beachley and Hannah McKeon have each started 54 games, Mackenzie Tillman has started 37 games and Samantha Aljets has started 36 contests. Gianna Antone (28 starts) and Hannah King (27 starts) have also seen significant playing time.
