Towson Field Hockey Drops Senior Day Matchup Against Drexel

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team dropped a CAA matchup against Drexel 5-1 Sunday afternoon at the TU Field Hockey Complex.

  • Towson – 4-10, 0-3
  • Drexel – 9-5, 2-1
 
How it happened:
  • Drexel got out to an early lead with two goals in the first quarter, one off a penalty corner late in the period.
  • Hannah McKeon split the Drexel lead in half with a score off a Towson penalty corner, assisted by Georgia Beachley and Hedwig Veldhuizen.
  • Tessa Scheenstra was forced out of the game following a collision in the fourth quarter but reentered shortly thereafter.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Hannah McKeon scored her sixth goal in the last nine games, tripling her previous season-high of two in 2021. She leads the team with six goals and ranks second with 15 points.
  • Georgia Beachley recorded her sixth assist of the season which paces the team. She currently ranks 10th in program history with 13 career assists. She is tied with Amy Shaw (1994-97) and Emily Swartz (2002-05), and trails only Christina Boarman (36), Julie Lambi (23), Kelsi Fortier (23), Carolina Avila (21), Stephanie Kisic (20), Ashley Bacon (18), Andrea Schlezes (18), Laura Kilmon (16) and Laura Schnell (16).
  • The 2022 team features six seniors who have been fixtures in the lineup since arriving on campus in September 2019. After 14 games this season, the six have combined to start 241games. Beachley and McKeon have each started 55 games, while Mackenzie Tillman and Samantha Aljets have each started 37 contests. Gianna Antone (29 starts) and Hannah King (28 starts) have also seen significant playing time.
