WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Towson University women's soccer team earned their first win in program history in the CAA Tournament with a 2-1 win against four seed Elon on Thursday.
Nia Christopher gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead with
Phoebe Canoles providing a second half tally for Towson (12-2-5) as they defeat Elon (9-6-3) to advance to the CAA Semifinals for the first time in program history.

Head Coach Katherine Vettori: "Nia (Christopher) got a ball and in a 1v1 situation she is very dangerous and she finished it. Phoebe's (Canoles) shot was great but Elon was tough and very dynamic. They kept it very exciting until the end."

How It Happened:
- Elon was on the front foot early. Riley Melendez had to make a leaping save to keep the Phoenix off the board in the fourth minute.
- Demi Pierre had a golden chance in the 20th minute. She found a rebound at her foot just inside the box, but her shot rang off the post.
- The Tigers broke through just minutes later. Nia Christopher took a turnover in the offensive end, got around a defender and slotted it home to put Towson in front 1-0 in the 22nd minute.
- Rebecca Groseibl was centimeters from putting the Tigers up 2-0. She found the ball from 18 yards out, but her attempt hit the post and ran across the mouth of goal.
- Riley Melendez was called into action late in the half and she answered the call, punching a shot away to keep Towson in front 1-0 at the half.
- Towson opened the half with a good chance. Christopher found herself in on goal. She dropped a pass to Phoebe Canoles but her shot was turned aside.
- Elon had an opportunity to tie it in the 63rd minute that went just off the crossbar.
- Phoebe Canoles added the insurance goal in the 75th minute. She took a pass from Nia Christopher, made a move to the middle, and bent a shot into the top corner to give Towson a 2-0 lead.
- Elon responded with a late goal in the 88th minute off a set piece to cut the Tiger lead to 2-1.
- The Tigers would hold on for a 2-1 win against the Phoenix, picking up their first win the CAA Tournament in program history.
