Towson Field Hockey Drops CAA Opener versus Hofstra

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team dropped a tightly-contested CAA conference play opener versus Hofstra 1-0 Friday afternoon at the TU Field Hockey complex.
 
Records:
 
  • Towson – 4-7
  • Hofstra – 6-6
 
How it happened:
  • The Tigers recorded 11 shots with nine on goal in the contest, including seven shots in the fourth period.
  • Hofstra found the back of the cage and got on the board early in the second quarter.
  • Midway through the third quarter, Hofstra was issued a red card and was forced to play short one player for the remainder of the game.
  • Sarah Hatfield and Hedwig Veldhuizen each put three shots on goal in the game but were unable to connect, in part due to nine saves from Hofstra's goalie.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Tigers' seven shots in the fourth quarter is the second-most in a single period thus far this season, behind only eight shots in the second period against Davidson.
  • Tessa Scheenstra recorded five saves on 10 shots faced in the contest.
  • The 2022 team features six seniors who have been fixtures in the lineup since arriving on campus in September 2019. After ten games this season, the six have combined to start 225 games. Georgia Beachley and Hannah McKeon have each started 52 games, Mackenzie Tillman has started 36 games and Samantha Aljets has started 34 contests. Gianna Antone (26 starts) and Hannah King (25 starts) have also seen significant playing time.
