WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Towson University women's soccer team had chances but battled to a hard fought 0-0 draw at UNCW on Sunday.
Nia Christopher had two shots on goal to lead Towson (9-2-4, 2-1-3 CAA) against UNCW (7-5-2, 3-2-1 CAA) on Sunday.
Demi Pierre led with three shots while
Riley Melendez making two saves for her ninth shutout of the season.
Key Stats:
- Both Towson and UNCW had nine shots with the Tigers putting four on goal.
- The Tigers forced three Seahawk offsides, but UNCW had five corner kicks compared to just three for Towson.
- Demi Pierre recorded three shots with Nia Christopher, Jasmine Hamid, and Phoebe Canoles each having two shots.
How It Happened:
- Jasmine Hamid had the first chance for the Tigers, but her attempt in the 11th minute was stopped.
- Riley Melendez was called into action just minutes later, needing to make a save off a good look to keep it scoreless.
- Hamid once again had a good look in the 30th minute. She took a shot from 20 yards out, but it just sails over the crossbar.
- Both teams picked up the pace late in the half. Towson had a look in the dying seconds of the half, but both teams headed to the break at 0-0.
- Nia Christopher found herself on goal early in the second half off a pass from Phoebe Canoles, but her shot was punched aside.
- Christopher had another good look after a good through ball, but the junior could not get enough on the shot in the 61st minute.
- Towson started to find their rhythm after that. Christopher took the ball the length of the field on a breakaway but her shot was just saved off the foot of the UNCW keeper.
- UNCW threatened in the 71st minute but the shot sailed high to keep it scoreless.
- Towson had possession in the UNCW zone late, but the game ended in a 0-0 draw on Sunday.

- The Tigers improve their unbeaten streak to five games. During the run they have allowed just two goals, outscoring opponents 5-2 with three shutouts.
- Riley Melendez recorded her ninth shutout of the season. She is just three shutouts away from tying the single season record with 12.
- Towson had their last regular season road contest of the season, finishing with a 4-0-3 record on the road this season.
