Cajic's Career Day Clinches Third Straight CAA Regular Season Title for Towson

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University volleyball team faced off against the Hofstra Pride in a winner-take-all match to crown a regular season champion. The Tigers (26-1, 15-1 CAA) defeated Hofstra in five sets to defend their crown 25-12, 25-21, 15-25, 21-25, 15-11.

  • Towson totaled 13 blocks this afternoon.
  • The Tigers had a hit percentage over .300 in the first and final set.
  • Nina Cajic had a career-high 21 kills on .500 hir percentage.
 
How It Happened vs Hofstra:
  • Towson got off to a fast start with a 12-2 run to open the first set, which included five kills from Nina Cajic. Hofstra was able to reduce their deficit to nine, but the Tigers scored four consecutive points to have a 20-7 lead. The teams traded points with Towson winning the first set 25-12.
  • Towson gained an early lead, but Hofstra scored four straight points to take a 7-5 lead. Hofstra maintained the lead until the Tigers responded with five consecutive points to have a 19-15 lead.
  • Hofstra countered with a 5-1 to tie the score at 20. Towson went on their own 5-1 run to seal the second victory 25-21.
  • Hofstra jumped out to a small lead to start the third set and extended it to five after a 5-1 run gave the Pride an 11-6 advantage. Towson scored three straight points to force a timeout by Hofstra.
  • The Pride came out of the timeout with a 9-1 run to take control of the set 20-10. Hofstra was able to see through the remainder of the set and win the set 25-15.
  • Hofstra got out to a 9-3 lead after scoring five straight points in a row. Towson reduced the deficit to two after a 6-2 run. Hofstra grew their lead to five, but the Tigers went on a 7-2 run that included four consecutive kills by Cajic to tie the set at 17.
  •  The teams traded points and were tied at 20, then Hofstra closed out the fourth set on a 5-1 run to win the fourth 25-21.
  • Towson opened the final set with an 8-2 run behind three kills from Cajic. Hofstra reduced the deficit to four, but a kill by Sara Wasiakowska and an ace from Asia Goins gave Towson an 11-5 lead.
  • The teams traded points to get the Tigers to match point. Hofstra scored three consecutive points to make the score 14-11, but a service error sealed the set and the match for Towson.
 
Inside the Numbers vs Hofstra:
  • Nina Cajic led the Tigers' offense with a career-high 21 kills and a .500 hit percentage. This is the tenth time this season that Cajic finished with a hit percentage .500 or better. Cajic also added five total blocks and three digs.
  • Katie McCracken had a career-high 18 digs and a team-best 25 assists
  • Victoria Barrett totaled 11 kills, four total blocks, four digs and finished with a .333 hit percentage.
  • Aayinde Smith had a team-high seven total blocks today.
  • Towson wins its third consecutive CAA regular season title.
  • The Tigers picked up its first five-set win in CAA play.
