TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's basketball team will start a five-game road trip that starts in Loretto, Pa., against the Red Flash of Saint Francis University. The Tigers have started 1-0 for the third straight year.
League Honors
Redshirt junior guard Kylie Kornegay-Lucas was named CAA Player of the Week after flirting with a triple-double in the 83-72 win against Longwood. Kornegay-Lucas had 29 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, a career-high five blocks and three steals. The guard from Camden, Del. had a career-high 11 field goals and three triples on 68.7 FG percentage.
New Faces
Towson added six newcomers this season for the 2022-23 season. Four players played college basketball last year with two incoming freshman. Taiye Johnson transfers in after three years at Radford, while Alexia Nelson comes after two years at UMBC. Alina Sendar comes in after one year at Georgia and Pat Anumbga comes from from CCBC Essex. India Johnston and Gabby Scott will make their collegiate debuts this season.
Preseason Honors
Anissa Rivera was picked to Preseason All-CAA First Team after being named All-CAA Preseason Honorable Mention last year. Rivera led the Tigers last season in rebounding, averaging 7.1 boards a game, including a season-best 14 against Frostburg State.
Kylie Kornegay-Lucas was named to the Preseason All-CAA Second Team. Kornegay-Lucas was the 2021-22 CAA Sixth Player of the Year after averaging 8.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game off the bench. The Camden, Del. native led the Tigers in steals with 40 and finished second in assists with 71.
At the Helm
Coach Laura Harper was announced as the Head Coach of Towson's women's basketball program in April. This is her first season in charge of the Tigers. Harper previously coached Coppin State for the last two years. She inherits a squad that went 24-8 and made a WNIT appearance last year.

The Tigers hold a 71-53 (.573) home record since SECU Arena was built, including a 31-14 (.689) record against non-conference opponents.
On the Ballot
Towson received three votes in the College Insider Mid-Major Poll. The Tigers are one of five CAA teams to get votes in the poll, with Drexel being ranked the highest with 481 votes to earn the seventh spot. The Tigers were ranked as high as 15th last year in the poll.
Preseason Poll
The CAA announced their annual Preseason Poll last month. The Tigers were picked to finish fifth but received two first-place votes, the second most of any CAA team. Drexel was picked to finish first, receiving 10 votes.
Tigers In the Postseason
Towson has reached the postseason three times in the past 15 years. The team made its first-ever trip in the NCAA Tournament in 2019. They also advanced to the WBI in 2010. Towson earned their second trip to the Postseason WNIT, after a 24-8 season last year.
Scouting the Red Flash
Saint Francis U has had a tough schedule to start the season going 0-3. The Red Flash will host their first game at DeGol Arena this season. Saint Francis U started the season against Robert Morris and fell 49-36. The Red Flash traveled to Ann Arbor to face #25 Michigan and lost 91-36. Their most recent game was a 78-52 loss against Xavier last Sunday. The Red Flash were picked to finish in fourth place in the NEC Preseason Poll. They are led by transfer guard Filippa Goula who leads the team in points, assists and steals.
Last Time Out
Towson kicked off the season with an 83-72 win against the Longwood Lancers. Kylie Kornegay-Lucas had a near triple-double with 29 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, five blocks and three steals. Quinzia Fulmore got her first double-double with a career-high 13 points and 10 rebounds. Anissa Rivera also got a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Newcomer India Johnston made an instant impact with 13 points, including three triples. Towson cleaned up on the glass against the Lancers, grabbing 45 rebounds, including 32 defensive boards. Towson shared the ball with each other dishing out 19 assists.
Next Up
The Tigers will return to the state of Maryland and go against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
