Benzing Collects Third Weekly Award of the Early Season

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University swimmer Brian Benzing was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. This is Benzing's third award this season, following CAA Swimmer of the Week honors on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. The junior won six events while setting five meet records to help Towson secure a second-place finish at the Patriot Invitational. Benzing posted NCAA B cut times in the 100 breast (52.37) and 100 fly (47.14), which are each the second-fastest times in those events in school history. That time in the 100 breast set a new meet record and currently ranks 19th nationally in Division I. Benzing also set a meet record in the 100 free (43.92 in preliminaries), which is the second-fastest time in the CAA this year. He helped set meet records in the 200 free (1:20.28) and 200 medley (1:27.79) relays and set a pool record in the 400 medley (3:13.92) relay. Benzing had two second-place finishes in the 500 free (4:30.61) and 400 free relay (2:58.16).
