TOWSON, Md. – Towson University swimmers
Brian Benzing and
Sean Colson have each been named College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Individual Scholar All-Americans. Benzing achieved first team honors and Colson was named to the second team.
Benzing earned first team accolades after finishing as the national runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Division I Championships with a CAA-record time of 50.59, making him an All-American in the event. The senior also earned honorable mention All-American status in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing 16
th overall with a CAA-record time of 1:52.71. He's the first four-time CAA Men's Swimmer of the Year, a three-time CAA Championships Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet and earned the CAA Men's Swimming & Diving Leadership & Sport Excellence award following this season. At U.S. Olympic Team Trials, he placed 12
th overall with a time of 1:00.29 in the 100-meter breaststroke. He became the first Towson swimmer to advance past preliminary heats at U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Benzing completed his undergraduate degree in sport management in May after recently fulfilling an internship with the Towson Athletics marketing department.
Colson became the 200 backstroke program record holder with a time of 1:42.85 at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship. He also holds the second-fastest 100 backstroke time in program history with his relay lead-off leg of 48.01 at the CAA Championships. He holds the seventh-fastest 200 IM time in Towson history, clocking in at 1:48.93 at the conference championship.
Colson is a rising junior majoring in business administration.
