Towson Men’s Basketball Falls in Hostilo Hoops Community Classic Opener, 74-69 Against Fairfield

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Towson men's basketball saw their five-game win streak snapped in a 74-69 loss against Fairfield to open the Hostilo Hoops Community Classic on Friday.

The Tigers (5-1) battled back from down nine against Fairfield (1-4) to tie it, but the Stags would score the last five points of the game after Towson got the game to within one.

Cam Holden led the Tigers with 18 points. Nicolas Timberlake and Charles Thompson also hit double figures with 15 and 11 points respectively.

  • Fairfield would then score five straight to take a 5-2 lead before Towson ripped off a 6-0 spurt to take the lead back.
  • From there both teams would struggle from the floor with each team hitting just one shot over a four-minute stretch.
  • The Stags would lead by as many as six late in the half but the Tigers responded.
  • But a layup by Chase Paar and free throws from Nicolas Timberlake and Cam Holden cut the deficit to 34-33 at the break.
  • The Stags came out connecting on a pair of three pointers to open the second half and increase their lead.
  • The Tigers would not waver, continuing to fight and trim the deficit.
  • Nicolas Timberlake with a big three cut the deficit to just two midway through the half and would later tie it on a Charles Thompson layup with just four minutes to go.
  • Down seven with 2:43 to go, Cam Holden and Charles Thompson would hit layups and Nicolas Timberlake would get a dunk to cut it to one with 58 seconds.
  • However, the Stags would go 4-4 from the line to defeat the Tigers 74-69.
Inside The Numbers:
  • This is the second straight game and fifth game of the season the Tigers have out-rebounded their opponent.
  • The Tigers scored 36 points in the paint and got 20 points from their bench.
