SAVANNAH, Ga. – Towson men's basketball concluded the Hostilo Hoops Community Classic with a 70-60 win against Mercer on Sunday. The Tigers had three in double figures led by a double-double from
Cam Holden.
Towson (7-1) got a 24-point, 10 rebound performance from Holden as three Tigers hit double figures to defeat Mercer (4-4).
Key Stats:
- Towson once again outrebounded their opponent, 39-31.
- The Tigers shot 40 percent from the floor, holding the Bears to under 40 percent from the floor.
- Holden led the Tigers with 24 points and 10 rebounds, adding five assists.
- Ryan Conway and Charles Thompson also hit double figures with Conway scoring 11 and Thompson chipping in 17 and eight boards.
How It Happened:
- Mercer scores on the opening possession. Towson would respond with a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game.
- After the Bears tied it up, Cam Holden hit a big and one to put Towson back in front at the under 16 timeout.
- Both teams found their shooting stroke after the timeout. Nygal Russell hit a big three in the corner to put the Tigers in front by four at the under 12 timeout, part of another 7-0 run.
- Mercer would respond with a 7-0 run of their own to retake the lead 23-20.
- Cam Holden would find his shooting stroke, scoring seven straight for the Tigers to tie the game at 27-27 at the under four timeout.
- Holden would continue to takeover for the Tigers, scoring 18 points in the half to give Towson a 31-30 lead at the break. Towson benefited from six offensive rebounds, getting six second chance points.
- Christian May gave the Tigers the lead back after a series of offensive rebounds, the seventh lead change of the game early in the second half.
- Both teams struggled from the floor after the timeout. Neither side hit a field goal over a four-minute span.
- The Bears would force a Tiger timeout after putting together a 5-0 run to retake the lead.
- However, the Tigers would get hot from the floor down the stretch. Charles Thompson had a big and one to push the Tigers in front by six.
- Ryan Conway delivered the final blow with back-to-back triples, part of his 11-point day to put Towson up double digits.
