BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Towson men's basketball used a big second half in a 74-64 win against LIU on Friday night. The Tigers had four score in double figure led by a 22-point outing for
Cam Holden and a double-double from
Charles Thompson.
Thompson had 13 points and a season-high 15 rebounds for the Tigers (8-1) in the win over LIU (1-6).
Nygal Russell chipped in 11 points with
Nicolas Timberlake adding 15 points with five assists.
Key Stats:
- The Tigers outscored the Sharks 40-28 in the second half after trailing by one at the break.
- Towson once again outrebounded their opponent, 39-26 including 16-8 on the offensive glass.
- 38 of the 74 points for the Tigers were scored in the paint.
How It Happened:
- Holden got the Tigers on the board early with a layup.
- The Sharks would take the lead after connecting on a pair of triples to take a 15-11 lead at the under 12 timeout.
- LIU would continue their hot shooting, but a Nicolas Timberlake three would cut the deficit to 22-18.
- That would spark a 7-0 run that cut the deficit to just two.
- The two would battle back and forth late in the half with Towson tying it after a pair of Nicolas Timberlake free throws, however the Sharks would take a 36-34 lead into the break.
- Towson would rip off a 7-0 run, capped by a Russell steal and finish to pull within one and force an LIU timeout.
- The Tigers would retake the lead after a Holden bucket as the Tigers started to find their rhythm on offense.
- Nygal Russell would hit a big and one after the media timeout to give Towson a 55-54 lead.
- Towson then went on a 7-0 run to push in front by five, their largest lead to that point.
- Another 10-0 run put the Tigers up by 10 late, keyed by a pair of Ryan Conway three's and a thunderous Charles Thompson dunk.
- The Tigers would hit free throws late to hold off LIU in a 74-64 win on Friday night.

- This is the seventh time this season the Tigers outrebounded their opponent. In those games, Towson is 6-1.
