Towson Men’s Basketball Drops 71-69 Overtime Heartbreaker Against Navy on Sunday

TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball dropped a heartbreaking 71-69 overtime game against Navy on Sunday night at SECU Arena. The Tigers held the lead late, but the Midshipmen held off a last second attempt for the win.

Towson (8-3) held a two-point lead with 21 seconds left, but Navy tied it with eight seconds left to force overtime. Navy led by as many as five in the extra session and had a two-point lead with 12 seconds left, but the attempt by Nicolas Timberlake went off the front of the rim.

Timberlake led the Tigers with 17 points, adding four rebounds and four assists.

How It Happened:
  • Both teams struggled from the floor early with Towson with Cam Holden hitting a pair of free throws to put Towson up 2-0.
  • Navy ripped off a 6-0 run to take an 11-6 lead, but a Nicolas Timberlake corner three ended the run.
  • The Tigers battled back with Christian May drilling a corner three to tie it at 20-20 at the under four timeout.
  • Navy would tie the game, but the Tigers offense would explode late.
  • Towson went on a 13-0 run to take a ten-point lead after a Timberlake pull up jumper.
  • The Tigers would end the half on a 13-3 run to take a 35-27 lead into the half.
  • Navy went on a 9-0 run to take the lead, but a Charles Thompson layup ended the run.
  • The Tigers would put together another 6-0 run to retake the lead at the under 12 timeout with buckets from Charles Thompson and Sekou Sylla.
  • That would spark another 13-3 run, but the Midshipmen would fight back to tie it with under three to go.
  • Nicolas Timberlake responded with a big and one to give Towson the lead back with 1:50 to go.

  • In the extra session, Navy led by five before Ryan Conway hit a three to cut the deficit to two. Nicolas Timberlake would have a chance in the dying seconds, but his attempt hit off the rim.

  • Towson had 15 assists on 23 baskets and went 17-24 from the foul line.
