Benzing Finishes 12th Overall in 100 Breast, Narrowly Misses Olympic Trials Cut

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University swimmer Brian Benzing competed in the 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Open Friday, qualifying for the finals sessions in both events. His preliminary time of 54.67 in the 100 fly qualified 20th overall, narrowly missing the B final cut. Benzing took the ninth overall seed in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:02.35. That preliminary qualifying time was the top seed in the B final and just .16 seconds off the qualifying mark for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials.
 
In the finals session, Benzing finished fourth in the B final of the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.84, good for 12th overall in the event. In the 100 fly, Benzing placed 20th overall with a time of 54.83.
 
Up Next for Towson
The next meet for the men's team is Jan. 7 vs. Navy in Annapolis, Md. The women will face off with Drexel next on Jan. 21 for Senior Day at Burdick Pool.
