TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball rallied from a 16-point first half deficit to force overtime, but the Tigers could not convert a last second shot in a 76-74 loss to Charleston on Saturday.
Towson (8-6, 0-1 CAA) battled back from being down 10 with nine minutes to go to take the lead with 32 seconds to go. Charleston (14-1, 2-0 CAA) would take a two-point lead late in the overtime session, but a last second attempt just missed.
Nicolas Timberlake led five in double figures with 14 points with
Charles Thompson adding another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Key Stats:
- Cam Holden stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Nygal Russell added 12 points with Christian May chipping in 10.
- Towson forced 24 Charleston turnovers and assisted on 14 of 26 made buckets.
- The Tigers had 17 second chance points and 32 points in the paint.
How It Happened:
- Charleston got out to a fast 11-0 start before Cam Holden put back a miss to end the run.
- That would spark a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to just four after a Sekou Sylla steal and finish.
- The Cougars would hold the Tigers scoreless over a three-minute stretch to extend the deficit to 13 at the under 8 timeout.
- Towson would find their rhythm late in the half with a Nygal Russell driving layup and Nicolas Timberlake three to cut the deficit to 35-25 at the break.
- Towson scored 14 of their 25 points in the paint in the opening 20 minutes.
- The Tigers came out strong in the second half with a Ryan Conway corner three to cut the deficit to single digits.
- After a Charleston three, Christian May nailed one of his own to cut it to 42-33 at the under 16 timeout.
- Timberlake and Cam Holden would go back-to-back to bring it to within four, but the Cougars would respond with a three on the next possession.
- The Tigers would get the deficit back to four, but Charleston would respond once more by pushing it back to 10.
- Towson would rip off an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to three at the under eight timeout.
- The Tigers would get back to within four at the under four timeout after a Russell three off a turnover.
- Towson would tie it late on a Cam Holden layup and take the lead on a Charles Thompson putback.
- After the Cougars took the lead, Thompson would hit a free throw to tie it and force overtime.
- Charleston would take the lead with a three to open overtime. Towson would tie just seconds later after a free throw and layup from Cam Holden.
- Tied with 1:50 to go, the Cougars drew a foul and hit both free throws to take a two-point advantage. Nygal Russell had a look late but could not convert as the Tigers fell in an overtime heartbreaker 76-74.

- Nicolas Timberlake moved into 19th on the all-time scoring list. He now has 1,156 points, passing Steffan Bunsavage. Next on the list is Terrance Jacobs in 18th place with 1,170 points.
- Charles Thompson recorded his third double-double of the season.
