TOWSON, Md. – Towson men's basketball snapped a five-game losing streak with a 64-58 win against Drexel on Thursday night. The Tigers got a big contribution from
Nicolas Timberlake with 24 points.
Towson (9-6, 1-1 CAA) led Drexel (8-7, 2-1 CAA) for the entire game, getting the lead to as many as 17 in the second half. Timberlake poured in 24 points and added five
rebounds.
Key Stats:
- Sekou Sylla hit double figures with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
- Charles Thompson added 10 points and seven rebounds in the win.
- Towson shot 45.5 percent from the floor, including 48.1 percent in the second half.
How It Happened:
- Nicolas Timberlake got things started with a jumper off the window on the opening possession.
- That started a 7-1 run for the Tigers to open the game. Sekou Sylla hit a layup and Rahdir Hicks nailed a three as part of the run.
- Drexel would cut the deficit to 11-8 at the under 12 timeout.
- The Dragons would fight back to tie it at 11-11, but an and one from Sylla gave the Tigers the lead back.
- Nicolas Timberlake would extend that to a five point lead with his first three of the game.
- The Tigers would continue to lead the rest of the half, taking a 30-24 lead into halftime.
- Nicolas Timberlake led all scorers with 11 points in the first half.
- Towson would get out to an 11-3 start in the second half with Nicolas Timberlake hitting a pair of jumpers to force a Drexel timeout up 41-27.
- Drexel cut into the deficit with an 11-0 run over 4:22 to cut the Tiger lead to five with under seven minutes to go.
- Charles Thompson broke the drought with a layup off a feed from Nygal Russell.
- Towson would regain a ten point advantage after a Sylla bucket and Timberlake free throws to put the game away for good.
