TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team outscored William & Mary 42-25 in the second half to earn a 75-60 victory on Thursday night.
Towson (18-7, 9-3 CAA) was down by two at the half and by eight early in the second period vs. W&M (5-20, 4-8 CAA). The Tigers outscored W&M 42-19 in the final 18:02 of the contest to earn the win.
With the win, Towson has won at least 18 games in seven different seasons under
Pat Skerry since the 2012-13 campaign.
Key Stats:
- Towson was a force on the glass, outrebounding W&M 39-24 in the game.
- The Tigers picked up 28 points in the paint and hit 11 three-point baskets. Six different Tigers had at least nine points.
- Charles Thompson earned a double-double, leading Towson in each points with 18, rebounds with 11 and blocks with three. He shot 8-for-12 from the field (66.7%).
- Jason Gibson, in his highest-scoring game since Jan. 17, netted 17 points, including four three-point field goals, adding five boards. Nicolas Timberlake tallied 10 points and seven assists while Juwan Gray picked up 10 points off the bench.
- For W&M, Brandon Carroll finished with 18 points, four rebounds and two steals. Tyler Rice had 11 points and six assists.
How It Happened:
- Early I the game, Towson looked to spread the W&M defense out and took its shots from long range. Jason Gibson knocked down his first attempt as Towson got off to a 7-3 start in the opening three minutes.
- The teams started to exchange baskets as Towson held the advantage for the next few minutes. Towson countered W&M's jump shots with pushes in the paint as Charles Thompson and Cam Holden got Towson to a six-point lead at 14-8.
- After a few more exchanges, a Langton Hatton layup off a turnover pulled the visitors within a possession. Holden knocked down a top-of-the-arc three to get Towson back to a five-point lead at 23-18 with 7:34 left in the 1st.
- At 25-21 Towson, W&M full court pressure led to the visitors getting a 10-0 run to build a six-point advantage. Nicolas Timberlake stopped the run with free throws, but a Julian Lewis three-point basket got it to 34-27 W&M with 2:06 left in the opening period.
- Towson finished the half strongly as Holden found Thompson for a thunderous dunk to knock the deficit to two at 35-33 at the break.
- Into the second period, Lewis and Carroll hit back-to-back threes to give the visitors their largest lead of the night at 41-33 in the opening two minutes of the half.
- Towson called a timeout and looked to regroup. The Tigers responded with an 11-0 run, with no turnovers in that sprint, capped by a three-pointer by Terry Nolan Jr. to take a 44-41 advantage.
- The teams exchanged three-point field goals on each of their next pair of possessions. Carroll hit a driving layup, then Gibson knocked down a three to push the score to 53-49 with 12:59 left to play.
- Following an exchange, the teams went into a lull with no scoring for over two minutes. At 56-52, Timberlake and Gibson helped build the advantage back to 10. W&M pushed back with points in the paint, getting back to within six at the under-8 media.
- The Towson defense had a strong stretch, holding W&M off the scoreboard for over five minutes. The other way, the Tigers got 11 straight points, fueled by three baskets from Juwan Gray, to lead by 17. W&M scored the last basket as Towson took the victory 75-60.

- Towson has won at least 18 games during the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons.
- The Tigers have hit double digit threes in seven different games this year, last achieved with 11 threes at William & Mary on Jan. 11.
- This is the third time this year where Towson has won after being down at the half.
- Charles Thompson earned his third double-double of the year, all since Jan. 22. He has led Towson in rebounding in six of the last seven games.
