Byers RBI Brings Kidwiler Home in Day Two of Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL S.C. – The Towson University softball team ends the day with losses against Robert Morris University (RMU) and Youngstown State on their second day of the Winthrop Invitational Tournament, on Saturday.
 
How It Happened (Game One):
  • Things didn't start to pick up speed for either team until the third inning when the Colonials picked up four runs.
  • The Tigers looked to catch up in the fourth inning after a walk put Cori Jones on the board. Emma Armstrong looked to capitalize with a single putting Jones in a scoring position on second, but she was left on base after a strikeout.
  • Robert Morris earned another run in the fifth inning, stretching their lead 0-5.
  • The Tigers looked to come back in the fifth but were ultimately overpowered and the Colonials swelled their lead 0-8 to end the game.
Inside the Numbers (Game One): How It Happened (Game Two):
  • The Penguins got things started in the top of the first inning after getting hot with three runs. 
  • The Tigers answered in the bottom of the first earning a run of their own from a Sydni Byers RBI to bring home Nicole Kidwiler, ending the inning 1-3.
  • Both teams remained scoreless till the fourth when Youngstown stretched their lead after loaded bases, 1-9.
  • The fifth saw three more runs from the Penguins after a homerun gave Conchetta Rinaldi three RBIs to finish the game in the fifth, 1-12.

The Tigers continue in the Winthrop Tournament tomorrow, February 20 at 10 a.m. where they match up against Western Carolina for the second time this season.
