GREENSBORO N.C. – The Towson University softball team picks up a loss in a five-inning matchup against the University of Virginia in the first round of the UNCG Invitational on Friday. 
 
How It Happened:

• The Wahoos got out early in the first inning after a double and a home run put them in a three-run lead; Towson looked to catch up in the bottom with two hits but couldn't capitalize.
• Virginia stretched their lead to six points after picking up three more runs in the second and third innings.
• The Tigers began to pick up speed in the bottom of the fourth after a Madyson Peters double put her in a scoring position. Leading with the momentum, Emma Armstrong tripled to right field to bring pinch-runner Elizabeth Yoskowitz home before an RBI single to center field from Gracyn Houmis ends the inning with two runs from the Tigers.
• In the top of the fifth, Kelly Ayer swells Virginia's lead when a double to left-center brings three runners home; Ayers closed out the game on a wild pitch to advance the score.

Inside the Numbers:

• Nicole Kidwiler earns two hits on the day; Briana Ramirez and Gracyn Houmis pick up a hit each. Emma Armstrong earns a triple while Madyson Peters earns a double.
• Houmis and Armstrong collect an RBI each.
• Julia Jackson had five strikeouts. 
• Mackenzie Lake led with three assists; Jess Reed earns one.

The Tigers continue in the UNCG Invitational tomorrow, February 26 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. as they match up against Virginia for the second time before competing against tournament hosts, UNCG.
