GREENSBORO N.C. – The Towson University softball team picks up losses to the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina, Greensboro on day two of the UNCG Invitational on Saturday. 
 
How It Happened (Game One):

• Towson strikes first in the second inning when Sydni Byers gets things started on a double that followed with a single from Mackenzie Lake to advance Byers to third. Madyson Peters (2 RBI) then singled to right field to bring Byers and Lake home, 2-0.
• The Wahoos responded in the bottom of the second with three runs off three hits to inch ahead, 2-3.
• The third inning sees a hit each from both teams, but the score remains stagnant through the fourth.
• The Tigers get hot in the top of the fifth when Briana Ramirez earns her second hit of the game on a single to third base. Lake (2 RBI) then hits a single to left-field and advances to second on the throw, bringing home Nicole Kidwiler and Ramirez who earn a run each, 4-3.
• Virginia pulls away in the bottom of the fifth going nine runs from six hits and an error to finish the game, 4-12.

Inside the Numbers (Game One):

• Briana Ramirez and Mackenzie Lake earn a pair of hits and a run each. Sydni Byers grabs a run and a double. Madyson Peters and Gracyn Houmis take a hit each; Nicole Kidwiler picks up a run.
• Peters and Lake collect a pair of RBIs and assists. Melissa Abrahamian, Kidwiler and Houmis grab one assist each.
• Abrahamian faced 21 batters and struck out two on 98 pitches.

How It Happened (Game Two):

• The Spartans looked to put points up in the first inning after two hits, but Julia Jackson responded by striking out two batters back-to-back to end the inning, 0-0.
• The second saw a hit from the Tigers but no runs, leaving three players on bases in the top of the inning; the Spartans desired to push past Towson with two more hits, but Jackson ended the inning striking out two more players swinging. 
• Towson gets things going in the fourth when Madyson Peters hits a home run down the left-field line to notch the first run of the game. UNCG responded with a triple to center field for a run to tied up the game, 1-1.
• UNCG starts to pull away in the fifth, collecting two runs off a hit and a pair of Tiger errors to end the inning, 1-3.
• Sydni Byers opens the sixth inning with her third single of the game before Towson saw three outs in the top. The Spartans countered with another triple to center field before a ground out to first base secured another run for UNCG.
• Towson tries to catch up in the seventh but falls short, ending the game 1-4.

Inside the Numbers (Game Two):

• Madyson Peters scored the lone home run for the Tigers to add a hit, run, and an RBI; Sydni Byers picked up three hits.
• Ally Hickman earned three assists; Emma Armstrong tallies a pair.
• Julia Jackson faced 33 batters, striking out seven on 136 pitches.

Invitational Update:

• The Towson games against Bucknell University and Loyola University Chicago in the UNCG Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 27, have been canceled.
