Towson Finishes on a Split Day in the First Day of TU DeMarini Invite

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team picks up a local win against Coppin State University before falling to Providence College on day one of TU DeMarini Invite on Friday.

How It Happened (Game One):
  • Both teams saw no runs until the top of the third when a Coppin State triple to right-center took the early lead, 0-2.
  • The Eagles began to stretch their lead in the fourth after a Tigers error allowed a runner to score. The Tigers began to fight back, answering with a five-run spree to tie the game, 5-5.
  • Both teams held each other through the top of the sixth, adding a hit each to their scorecards. Towson starts to pull away in the bottom after runs on a single, wild pitch and an error increases their lead by three points.
  • Coppin State fights back with a double, but two more outs from the defense ended the game in the Tigers' favor, 8-5.
Inside the Numbers (Game One): How It Happened (Game Two):
  • Providence takes the early lead after a single and a double brought them up to two runs. Towson adds two hits to the scoresheet but left them on base to end the inning.
  • The Friars tally four more runs through the top of the third to bring them up to six runs; Towson gets on the board after a single from Mackenzie Lake brings her around the bases after an error.
  • A double to center field by Providence stretched their lead by one in the fourth; the Friars are able to hold onto their six-point lead through the sixth.
  • Towson looks to add to the board - Lake singles again to bring Katie Capizzi home in the bottom of the seventh. The Tigers fight hard with bases loaded but fall to time in the seventh inning.
Inside the Numbers (Game Two): Up Next:

The Tigers will continue in the TU DeMarini Invitational tomorrow when they take on the Columbia Lions for a three p.m. start.
