Towson Holds Columbia to One Run in Day Two Victory

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team picks up another win after holding Columbia University to one run on day two of the TU DeMarini Invitational.

How It Happened
  • Both teams put up a fight in the first inning, blanking out in runs, hits, and errors.
  • Things started to pick up for Towson in the bottom of the second after Chloe Poulich doubled to the left-center before stealing third. Poulich wasn't done yet, and advanced home while the Lions focused on catching a Tiger stealing. Gracyn Houmis finished the inning with a single and a steal before the third out.
  • Towson kept it moving in the third with a single from Briana Ramirez off a bunt. Ramirez then put herself in scoring position with a stolen base before Mackenzie Lake walked to first.
  • After a Columbia fielding error advanced Ramirez to third, a Poulich ground out to second base secured the RBI for a Ramirez, 2-0.
  • The teams kept up the fight in the fourth, allowing no runs for either team. Towson picked up a fielding error to advance a Lion to first but was quick to redeem themselves with two back-to-back outs. Houmis picked up her second hit in the bottom but was ultimately left on base to close out four.
  • Columbia saw their first hits in the top of the fifth, earning their lone run after a Lions' single to the left-field took the RBI, and an advancement to second on the throw brought a player home with an out at third, 2-1.
  • The sixth inning matched the fight seen throughout the game, with back-to-back outs from both teams.
  • Julia Jackson, who came in for relief, closed out the game in the top of the seventh striking out two more players swinging to cap off the victory.
