TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team picks up their fourth win after facing Coppin State for the second time, on day three of the TU DeMarini Invitational on Sunday.
How It Happened
- Third base, Chloe Poulich took a pair of runs for the Tigers on a 10 run day. Nicole Kidwiler, Briana Ramirez, Mackenzie Lake, Elizbeth Yoskowitz, Gracyn Houmis, and Emma Armstrong all tallied a run. Madyson Peters and Sydni Byers both earned a double and a home run each.
- Byers led in RBIs with three; Peters grabbed a pair. Ally Hickman, Kidwiler, Lake, Poulich, and Armstrong all had one apiece.
- Julia Jackson faced 22 batters and struck out one. Jackson took the win pitching in all five innings.
Inside the Numbers
- With bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Sydni Byers takes the plate to double to left-center for the triple RBI. With Byers on third, Madyson Peters strikes it hot with a double to center field to pick up the RBI from a Byers run to end the inning on a four-run lead, 4-0.
- With the second inning adding nothing to either score sheet, the Eagles collect their first run in the third on an Alexia Genovese earned run after an earlier single. Towson answers with back-to-back home runs from Chloe Poulich and Peters to end the inning, 6-1.
- The Eagles snag their final run of the day in the fourth inning, after advancing to home on the throw during a Tiger double play. Although the Tigers add another hit to their scorecard, they close out the inning with bases loaded.
- The top of the fifth sees three back-to-back outs for Coppin State to allow Towson to maintain a four-point lead going into the bottom.
- Towson begins to overpower the Eagles, doubling their lead to an eight-point game after runs from pitch runner Elizabeth Yoskowitz, Gracyn Houmis, Emma Armstrong, and Poulich. With the run rule in place, the Tigers earn the victory in the fifth, 10-2.
