Towson Baseball Back in the Win Column vs. Princeton

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team rebounded from Saturday, riding 7.1 innings from Nick Ramanjulu to earn a 6-5 victory in the series finale vs. Princeton.
 
Towson (7-13) scored five runs in the first three innings, adding a key insurance run in the sixth to hold off the final comeback attempt of Princeton (2-13).
 
With the victory, Towson and Princeton split the series 2-2.
 
Key Stats:
  • Nick Ramanjulu (2-2) earned the victory in his start, throwing seven-and-a-third with five runs and as many strikeouts.  Jake Pecilunas notched his third save of the year with one-and-two-thirds scoreless in relief.
  • In the lineup, Nolan Young hit 2-for-4 with a two-run triple and a stolen base while Trent Gast-Woodard knocked in a pair on a two-run double, finishing 1-for-2 with a pair of sacrifice hits.  Jack McLaughlin earned a multi-hit day, going 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base.
  • For Princeton, Matt Scannell tallied two hits on four at-bats, including a double and three RBI.  Starter Andrew D'Alessio (0-2) got the loss, surrendering six runs in as many innings and striking out two.
How It Happened:
  • Princeton got on the board first in the opening inning, using two singles, a hit-by-pitch and a fielder's choice to score two runs.
  • In the bottom of the second, Towson picked up second and third with two away.  Trent Gast-Woodard reached across the plate and floated a hit to the right-center gap for a double, bringing in two and tying the game.
  • Princeton got the lead back in the next half-inning off a Matt Scannell RBI single and Noah Granet sacrifice fly to be up 4-2.
  • Towson countered quickly in the bottom half of the third, loading the bases with one out.  Burke Camper hit a sacrifice fly to center, then Nolan Young lined to the right-center gap for a triple and bringing in two runs to give Towson a 5-4 lead.
  • As Nick Ramanjulu went through a trio of 1-2-3 innings on the mound, Chandler Castleberry added one run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-4 Towson.
  • Ramanjulu held down Princeton until the eighth inning, where the visitors scored on a one-out double by Scannell.  Jake Pecilunas came in and held the lead, holding off Princeton in the final inning as well to give Towson a 6-5 win.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Nick Ramanjulu has won his last two appearances, going at least six innings in each; the previous being a six-inning relief appearance vs. UMBC on March 8.
  • Jake Pecilunas made his 90th career appearance, increasing his program record, while tying for fourth all-time in career saves with nine.
  • Three players who played at least three games vs. Princeton hit over .500 in this series: Burke Camper (.556), Jack McLaughlin (.538) and Elijah Dickerson (.500).
