Castleberry Homers in Towson Baseball Defeat at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chandler Castleberry hit his first home run as a Tiger in his home state as the Towson University baseball team fell to UNCG 12-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Towson (2-9) held UNCG (5-5) hitless in the opening three innings of the matinee, but the Spartans scored multiple runs in four different innings en route to the win.

Key Stats:
  • Jordan Peyton earned a multi-hit day from the nine-spot, finishing 2-for-3.  Chandler Castleberry hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, reaching base twice including a walk in a 1-for-2 afternoon.
  • The loss went to starter Teddy Blumenauer (0-3) who, despite keeping UNCG hitless in the first three innings, had five runs surrendered in 4.1 innings, striking out four.  Max Simpson pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his first appearance as a Towson Tiger.
  • For UNCG, Zach Budzik was 4-for-5 in the game, scoring twice and driving home four runs.  Austin Parsley (2-0) took the victory, going six innings in his start with a run and four strikeouts.
How It Happened:
  • The game started as a pitching duel, with neither side scoring in the opening three innings.  Matt Arceo threatened in the top of the second with a bunt single and stolen base while Teddy Blumenauer held the Spartans without a hit in that span.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, UNCG got the bases full with a single and two free passes.  Blumenauer struck out the next batter and induced a ground out, but a run came home.  UNCG pulled off a double steal next play to make it 2-0 Spartans.  Next frame, UNCG added four more for a 6-0 lead.
  • Back in his home state, Chandler Castleberry got Towson on the board by himself with a home run to left-center to pull Towson within five at 6-1 in the top of the sixth.
  • The home team got six more runs combined in the sixth and seventh frames.  Towson threatened in the top of the eighth with two on off a Jordan Peyton single and Danny Becerra walk, but did not score a run.  Towson fell 12-1.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Chandler Castleberry has reached base in all 11 games this season, earning a leadoff walk to extend the streak.
