GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chandler Castleberry hit his first home run as a Tiger in his home state as the Towson University baseball team fell to UNCG 12-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Towson (2-9) held UNCG (5-5) hitless in the opening three innings of the matinee, but the Spartans scored multiple runs in four different innings en route to the win.
Key Stats:
- Jordan Peyton earned a multi-hit day from the nine-spot, finishing 2-for-3. Chandler Castleberry hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, reaching base twice including a walk in a 1-for-2 afternoon.
- The loss went to starter Teddy Blumenauer (0-3) who, despite keeping UNCG hitless in the first three innings, had five runs surrendered in 4.1 innings, striking out four. Max Simpson pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his first appearance as a Towson Tiger.
- For UNCG, Zach Budzik was 4-for-5 in the game, scoring twice and driving home four runs. Austin Parsley (2-0) took the victory, going six innings in his start with a run and four strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- The game started as a pitching duel, with neither side scoring in the opening three innings. Matt Arceo threatened in the top of the second with a bunt single and stolen base while Teddy Blumenauer held the Spartans without a hit in that span.
- In the bottom of the fourth, UNCG got the bases full with a single and two free passes. Blumenauer struck out the next batter and induced a ground out, but a run came home. UNCG pulled off a double steal next play to make it 2-0 Spartans. Next frame, UNCG added four more for a 6-0 lead.
- Back in his home state, Chandler Castleberry got Towson on the board by himself with a home run to left-center to pull Towson within five at 6-1 in the top of the sixth.
- The home team got six more runs combined in the sixth and seventh frames. Towson threatened in the top of the eighth with two on off a Jordan Peyton single and Danny Becerra walk, but did not score a run. Towson fell 12-1.
