TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team finished out its weekend series against UNCW in a big way, shutting out the Seahawks 6-0 on Sunday afternoon.
 
Towson (12-22, 2-7 CAA) held down UNCW (24-8, 6-3 CAA) off a stellar pitching performance from 
Julia Jackson, taking the lead in the fourth.  Towson broke away with a five-run fifth inning, keeping the Seahawks off the board for the shutout.
 
This is Towson's second straight victory on a Sunday as the Tigers defeated Drexel 6-4 on April 3
rd.
 
Key Stats:
	- Julia Jackson (9-9) earned the complete game victory, going all seven innings scoreless with three strikeouts.  She allowed just one baserunner in the final three innings.
- Towson as a team had eight hits, including a home run and three triples.  Rylee Penrod hit the team's home run for two RBI, concluding 1-for-3.  Chloe Poulich reached base all three times at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs, two RBI and a walk.
- For UNCW, Arial Pearce notched a triple and a double on a 2-for-2 afternoon.  The loss went to Emily Winstead (9-4), who had two runs in 4+ innings of work, striking out seven batters.
How It Happened:
	- UNCW notched six hits in the opening three innings, threatening with the bases loaded with one out in the second frame.  Julia Jackson induced a pair of pop flies to end the second without a run.
- Into the bottom of the fourth, Chloe Poulich knocked a triple off the left-center wall.  Madyson Peters hit a single to first to bring in Poulich for a 1-0 Towson lead.
- Gracyn Houmis led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple over the right fielder's head.  Rylee Penrod followed with a two-run home run over the left field wall, against the wind, to push Towson up three.  The Tigers followed with a walk, single and sacrifice bunt.  Poulich hit a single up the middle to bring in two runs, taking second next batter then going to third on a Cori Jones single.  Sydni Byers hit a sacrifice fly for the fifth run of the inning and pushing Towson up 6-0.
- Jackson allowed just one hit in the final two innings to seal the shutout and the 6-0 Towson victory.
Inside the Numbers:
	- This is Towson's first shutout of the season, last throwing a shutout on Apr. 21, 2021 in a 2-0 victory vs. Saint Joseph's.
- Julia Jackson throws her first career shutout in a Towson uniform.  She also earned her 12th complete game of the season.
- Briana Ramirez is on a nine-game hitting streak dating back to March 30.
