WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Towson University baseball team scored four runs in the final three innings but fell to UNCW 11-5 on Saturday on the road.
Towson (9-25, 0-8 CAA) saw six of its first seven batters in the order hit safely but was unable to overcome its deficit to UNCW (20-13, 5-3 CAA).
Key Stats:
- Burke Camper earned a 3-for-5 night, notching an RBI single in the seventh inning. Chandler Castleberry reached base four times, going 1-for-2 with a double and three walks.
- Starter Nick Ramanjulu (2-5) got the loss, throwing three innings with four runs and five strikeouts.
- From the leadoff spot, Chris Thorburn was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Starter Cyle Phelan did not decision with four innings, no runs and two strikeouts. The next reliever, Noah Overton (1-1) got selected for the win, going 2.1 innings with three runs and five strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- UNCW got runs in the opening two innings, scoring on a two-out double steal in the first frame and a two-out sacrifice fly in the second to lead 2-0.
- Towson threatened in the top of the third, loading the bases with two out on three free passes, but a ground out ended the inning without runs.
- The home team added two more in the bottom of the fourth, beginning with a walk, single and sacrifice bunt. John Newton lined a ball to right-center for a two-run single to push UNCW up 4-0.
- Towson got on the board in the top of the fifth. James Moses reached on a third strike wild pitch, getting to third on an Elijah Dickerson one-out single. Moses scored next batter on another wild pitch to make the score 4-1 UNCW.
- The Seahawks had hits in their first six at-bats of the fifth inning to combine for five runs. They added another run in the sixth to go up 10-1.
- Towson started to get some offense in the top of the seventh, loading the bases via two singles and a walk. After a strikeout, Nolan Young reached on a fielder's choice to allow a run to score, then Burke Camper lasered a single through the left side for an RBI single to get Towson within seven.
- UNCW got a run back via RBI single in the seventh. Jordan Peyton walked and advanced twice via wild pitch in the eighth. Moses brought him in on a ground out for another Towson run.
- In the ninth, Towson looked for a final rally, loaded the bases with one out. Jacob Terao hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a run, but Towson could not get closer and fell 11-5.

- The game was delayed an hour-and-a-half due to rain in Wilmington.

Towson is back at Brooks Field tomorrow to play UNCW at 1 p.m.
