TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team put together a valiant effort to come back down three and force extra innings against the No. 21 team in the country but fell in the tenth 4-3 to Maryland on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Down three after seven innings, Towson (9-27) roared back with two in the eighth then a first pitch solo home run by 
Chandler Castleberry in the ninth to force extra innings.  Maryland (30-7) retook the lead on a Bobby Zmarzlak solo home run in the tenth and held for the victory.
 
Key Stats:
	- Towson's pitching staff combined for one earned run in 10 innings thrown, holding Maryland to five hits.  Luis Rivera got the start and went one-and-a-third scoreless with two strikeouts, followed by Brett Seils with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three.  The loss went to Doug Marose (1-1), who pitched the final two-and-a-third with one run and one strikeout.
- Jack McLaughlin notched three singles in the game on five at-bats, scoring once and driving in a run while Elijah Dickerson was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Chandler Castleberry's game-tying home run in the ninth made him 1-for-4 on the day.
- For Maryland, leadoff hitter Luke Shliger was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.  Starter Andrew Johnson did not decision off two scoreless innings and a strikeout.  Reliever David Falco (3-0) got the victory despite a blown save, throwing the last two innings with a run allowed.
How It Happened:
	- In his Towson debut, Luis Rivera went through the order in three batters in the top of the first, including a strikeout on Chris Alleyne.  Brett Seils took over during the second and pitched scoreless through the fourth.  The two sides engaged in a pitching duel with no runs across in the opening four innings.
- Maryland broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth inning, starting with the leadoff batter reaching on an error then advancing via passed ball.  Kevin Keister hit a ball up the middle for an RBI single.  Two batters later, Luke Shliger rode the wind for a two-run home run over the right field fence as Maryland led 3-0.
- Towson threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning, seeing Jack McLaughlin and Elijah Dickerson hit back-to-back two-out singles to put two on, but a ground ball out ended the inning with no runs across.
- The Tigers started to rally in the bottom of the eighth inning, beginning with a one-out double by Danny Becerra.  Two batters later, McLaughlin took a ball up the middle for an RBI single to bring the tying run to the plate.  Dickerson followed with an RBI double to the right-center gap, pulling Towson to within one.
- As Doug Marose went 1-2-3 in the ninth, Chandler Castleberry took the first pitch off David Falco and sent it over the left field wall to tie the game.  Burke Camper nearly won it with a blast down the left field line, narrowly going foul.  The game went into extra innings.
- In the top of the 10th, Brian Zmarzlak hit a solo home run over the right field wall to get Maryland back ahead.  Marose finished the inning with three ground outs, but Falco went through the 10th 1-2-3 to give the Terrapins a 4-3 win.
Inside the Numbers:
	- Chandler Castleberry hit his fourth home run of the season in the ninth.
- Towson has fallen by one or two runs in three of its last four defeats.
- Jack McLaughlin earned his 12th multi-hit game of the season and second three-hit contest of the 2022 campaign.  He is also on a six-game hitting streak.
- Danny Becerra has reached base in his last 13 games while Nolan Young has reached base in his last 10.
