Dickerson 10th Inning RBI Triple Sends Towson Baseball to Walk-Off Win

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team earned its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) victory in style as Elijah Dickerson hit a tenth inning RBI triple to score Jordan Peyton and send the Tigers to a 5-4 victory.
 
Towson (10-29, 1-11 CAA) had to head to extra innings against Hofstra (18-16, 9-6 CAA) after the Pride tied the game on a double and error in the ninth.  Two batters after Peyton reached on a throwing error, Dickerson hit a laser line drive to the right-center gap for a walk-off triple to send Towson to victory.
 
Key Stats:
  • Elijah Dickerson finished the day at 2-for-5, hitting a solo home run and RBI triple on the game.  James Moses went 2-for-5 with the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh while Danny Becerra tallied up two hits on four at-bats, having a double and a run.  Nolan Young hit fifth inning two-run home run for the Tigers.
  • Starting pitcher Nick Janowicz did not decision, going 4.1 innings with two runs, only one earned, with three strikeouts.  The victory went to Towson's final reliever, Doug Marose (2-1), who got a key ground ball double play to finish the tenth to conclude with a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.
  • For Hofstra, Ryan Morash concluded 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.  Starter Brad Camarda went seven innings with four runs and strikeouts in his no decision.  Michael O'Hanlon (2-2) got the loss in relief with an unearned run and three strikeouts in one total inning.
How It Happened:
  • With Nick Janowicz holding down Hofstra in the opening two innings, Elijah Dickerson led off the bottom of the second with a blast to left for a solo home run and a 1-0 Towson lead.
  • Ryan Morash led off the third with a double, stole third and scored on an Anthony D'Onofrio single up the middle with one out, tying the game 1-1.
  • Hofstra had their first two batters reach via error in the top of the fifth, later loading the bases with one out.  A fielder's choice on a fly ball to right allowed a runner to score and make it 2-1 Hofstra.
  • Next half-inning, Danny Becerra led off with a line drive double to left.  Nolan Young followed with a fly ball over the left-center fence for a two-run home run.  Towson led 3-2 after five.
  • Hofstra tied the game up in the sixth with a Steve Bruggeman solo home run to lead off the inning.
  • Tied into the bottom of the seventh, Burke Camper walked and was pinch run for by Ryan Terrents.  Terrents took second on a sacrifice bunt.  Two batters later, James Moses hit a ball through the right side, scoring Terrents for a 4-3 Towson lead.
  • Luis Rivera came into the eighth and struck out a batter with the bases loaded and two out to keep the lead.  Into the ninth, Brian Morrell got hit by a pitch with two out.  Steve Harrington hit a double to right-center, with a fielding error allowing a runner to score to tie the game at 4-4.  Justin Rebok came in with the bases loaded, inducing a ground out to second to keep the game tied.
  • Towson threatened in the ninth, getting two errors to put two runners on first and second, but Hofstra struck out the next two batters to force extra innings.
  • Into the tenth, Doug Marose induced a ground ball double play after Hofstra had two on and one out.  Jordan Peyton led off and reached on a throwing error at third.  Two batters later, Dickerson hammered a ball into the right-center gap which went to the wall for a triple.  Peyton scored from first to give Towson the 5-4 walk-off victory.
Inside the Numbers:
  • This was Towson's first victory in extra innings this season and first extra inning victory since a 4-3 win at Hofstra on April 23, 2021.
  • This series, Elijah Dickerson hit 6-for-10 (.600) with three home runs, four walks and six RBI.
  • Jake Pecilunas made his 99th career pitching appearance for the Tigers, increasing his program record.
