6-0 Run Lifts Women's Lacrosse Over William & Mary in Final Home Contest

TOWSON, Md. – In its last home contest of the season, the Towson University women's lacrosse team earned the 12-5 win over Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe William & Mary on Wednesday evening.  

The Tigers started the game with a 6-0 run to take a strong lead. The team held the Tribe scoreless for the entire first quarter and did not allow a goal until the 6:36 mark of the second.  

The Black & Gold steadily built on their advantage, not letting the score come within less than six goals during the second half.  

Blair Pearre paced the Tigers with three goals while Kerri Thornton, Gabby Garrett and Halley Koras all chipped in two scores a piece. Kerri Liucci, Milana Zizakovic and Lindsay Clarke also tallied goals.  

Pearre, the former Under Armour All-American, now has 22 career hat tricks and has scored at least two goals in 31 of 37 games at the collegiate level. She also moved up to 12th on the program's top 20 scoring list with 108 career goals.  

Carly Merlo led the defense with 10 saves, her third double-digit save total of the season. Erin Williams and Shannon Sullivan topped the stats with five ground balls each to tie and set their respective career highs. Williams also secured three caused turnovers to tie her season best.

How it Happened    

  • Towson came out hot with a six-goal run to take an early commanding lead. Pearre got the Tigers started with a pair of scores before Garrett and Zizakovic added goals of their own.  
  • Zizakovic also added an assist on Kerri Thornton's first of two consecutive goals in the second period. William & Mary finally put an end to the run 23:24 into action, to make the score 6-1.  
  • With just under eight seconds to go in the first half, Garrett added another score off a feed from Liucci to give the Tigers the 7-1 edge at halftime.  
  • To start off the third, Liucci got a score of her own before W&M added a pair of goals to make the score 9-3. Clarke also contributed a goal in between the opposition's scores.  
  • The Tigers went on another three-goal spurt with scores from Pearre and back-to-back tallies from Koras to stay in control, 12-3, and take their biggest lead of the day.  
  • William & Mary ended the game with two goals, but Towson still came out on top with the ultimate 12-5 victory.  

Key Stats  

  •  Towson won the draw control battle, 16-5. Pearre led the way with five draw controls to bring her career total up to 154. She remains ranked fifth in program history, just 14 behind Becky Trumbo (168).  
  • In addition to Pearre's success on the offensive end against W&M, she also added four ground balls and two caused turnovers for a strong all-around performance. 
  • Julia Porter set a new season high, dishing out two assists.  
  • With seven unique goal scorers against the Tribe, the Tigers have now seen five or more players score in eight consecutive outings.  
  • The starting defensive unit of Williams, Sullivan, Blair Goodrich and Olivia Malamphy combined for 13 ground balls and caused six turnovers.  

Next Game 

To end the regular season, Towson will take the short trip to Delaware on Saturday, April 30 for a 12 p.m. game. With a 4-1 conference record, the Tigers have already clinched their spot in the 2022 Women's Lacrosse CAA Tournament hosted by Drexel at Vidas Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Semifinals will take place on Friday, May 6, with the Championship to follow on Sunday, May 8.
