CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Towson University softball team fell in a pair of games at Charleston 2-0 and 7-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Towson (14-30, 4-13 CAA) kept it close in game one, falling on a fourth-inning Charleston (13-35, 6-10 CAA) home run and led after two innings in game two, but the Cougars took each victory.
Key Stats:
- Chloe Poulich hit safely in both games, going 2-for-6 with an RBI. Mackenzie Lake and Sydni Byers also hit safely in each contest, both going 2-for-6.
- In game one, Julia Jackson (11-13) got the loss despite just two runs in a six-inning complete game, striking out two. Paige Kostick (0-3) had the defeat in game two with three runs and three strikeouts in four innings.
- Mia Dittoe hit a two-run home run to eventually win the first game for Charleston, finishing the day 3-for-7 with three RBI. Carli McCants (5-9) won game one with a seven-inning, nine-strikeout shutout while Payton Lemire (4-11) picked up the game two win with seven innings, one run and five strikeouts.
How It Happened (Game 1):
- Towson threatened in the opening inning, with a couple of steals for Briana Ramirez and Nicole Kidwiler putting second and third with one out, but a strikeout and line out ended the inning without any runs.
- Julia Jackson pitched a one-hitter through three innings. In the fourth, with one on, one out, Mia Dittoe hit a two-run home run over the left field wall to make it 2-0 Charleston.
- Towson was held down by Carli McCants the rest of the way and fell in game one 2-0.
How It Happened (Game 2):
- Towson got the first run of the second game off the bat of Chloe Poulich. With Briana Ramirez on second, Poulich hit a single up the middle to score Poulich for a 1-0 Towson lead.
- Into the bottom of the third, Charleston got the tying run on a passed ball. The Cougars followed with four straight singles to plate two runs and lead 3-1.
- Charleston broke the game open in the sixth, getting six consecutive batters on with one out to score four runs and lead 7-1. Sydni Byers hit a leadoff double in the seventh but Towson could not muster a rally and fell in the game.

Towson and Charleston will play a single game at 1 p.m. tomorrow to close out the series.
