WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – An eighth inning
Jack McLaughlin home run was not enough as the Towson University baseball team fell to William & Mary 8-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Towson (9-22, 0-5 CAA) outscored William & Mary (17-13, 6-2 CAA) 3-2 in the final five innings but could not make up an early six-run deficit to the home team.
Key Stats:
- Jack McLaughlin hit his third home run of the year on a solo shot in the eighth inning, ending 1-for-4. Burke Camper tallied two hits on four at-bats, including a double and a run, while Danny Becerra was 2-for-5 with an RBU.
- The loss went to Towson starter Nick Ramanjulu (2-4), who went 2.1 innings with six runs and a strikeout.
- For W&M, Mark Trotta finished 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Zach Tsakounis (4-0) got the win, going 4.1 innings with two runs and five strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- W&M got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the first and four times in the third, capped by a three-run home run by Joe Delossantos, to lead 6-0 after three innings.
- Towson's bats got going in the top of the fifth, being with three consecutive singles, capped by an RBI single to right-center by Jake Lysaght. Two batters later, Danny Becerra lined a single to left to bring in another run as Towson pulled to within four at 6-2.
- The home team got back the runs with one each in the fifth and sixth to get its lead back to six.
- In the top of the eighth, Jack McLaughlin flew a pitch over the right field wall opposite way for a leadoff home run. That is as close as Towson got, falling to W&M 8-3.
Inside the Numbers:
- Danny Becerra has hit safely in seven of his last eight games and has multi-hit twice this week, going 3-for-5 vs. George Washington on Tuesday.
- Nolan Young is riding a five-game hitting streak.
- Jake Pecilunas made his 95th career pitching appearance for the Tigers, increasing his program record.
