BOSTON – Chandler Castleberry and
Nolan Young each earned multi-hit games as the Towson University baseball team fell to Northeastern 16-4 in the series finale on Sunday.
Towson (10-33, 1-14 CAA) tied the game with a two-run third inning against the defending Colonial Athletic Association champion Northeastern (23-21-1, 7-8 CAA), but the Huskies won with five multi-run innings.
Key Stats:
- Chandler Castleberry notched a triple and a double in a 2-for-4 afternoon, scoring twice and driving in a run. Nolan Young went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
- The loss went to starter Nick Ramanjulu (2-6), who had four runs, just two earned, in two innings.
- For Northeastern, Danny Crossen hit 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Starter Sebastian Keane (4-4) won the game, going six innings with three runs and four strikeouts.
How It Happened:
- Northeastern got on the board first in the bottom of the second. A hit-by-pitch, single and sacrifice bunt put two in scoring position. Luke Masiuk hit a sacrifice fly to right then Danny Crossen singled up the middle as Northeastern led 2-0.
- Towson responded in the following half-frame, led off by a Jordan Peyton double to the left-center gap. Two batters later, Chandler Castleberry flew a ball to the right-center gap for a triple, scoring Peyton. The very next pitch, Nolan Young lined a ball through the right side for an RBI single, tying the game at 2-2.
- The home team rallied in the bottom half of the third, using a couple of singles and several bunts to get four runs and lead 6-2.
- Northeastern continued to hit, adding two more runs in each the fourth and fifth to lead 10-2.
- Into the sixth, Towson got a run back after Castleberry notched a leadoff double and took third on a flyout. James Moses grounded out to first, getting Castleberry home to make it 10-3 Northeastern.
- The Huskies sealed the game in the seventh, scoring six unearned runs to go up 16-3.
- With one away, Young hit a single to center in the eighth. Max Samson followed with a double deep to the left-center gap, scoring Young. Northeastern did not allow another run and won 16-4.
