FAIRFAX, Va. – Jack McLaughlin launched a two-run home run in the ninth inning to attempt a final rally but the Towson University baseball team fell at George Mason 8-6 on Tuesday afternoon.
In a game where each team scored in at least four innings, Towson (10-34), which mustered 11 hits, pulled to within one twice in the fifth and seventh against George Mason (17-26). McLaughlin's home run brought the Tigers within two in the ninth, but the Patriots held for the win.

- Elijah Dickerson earned a 3-for-4 afternoon, having a double, a walk and two RBI. Jack McLaughlin was 1-for-4 with his two-run home run and a sacrifice fly for three total RBI while Jordan Peyton was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- The loss went to starter Teddy Blumenauer (0-5) with a run allowed in the first inning. Brett Seils went two scoreless innings, striking out two in relief.
- For George Mason, Connor Dykstra hit 2-for-3 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Starter Stephen Restuccio (1-0) got the victory with 2.2 innings pitched.
How It Happened:
- The home team got an early start in the game, beginning the first with a walk and RBI double, then getting a leadoff home run in the second for a 2-0 lead.
- Towson put two on via double and a walk to threaten in the third with two out, but a strikeout ended the inning. George Mason added another run in the third with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to lead 3-0.
- Into the fourth, Danny Becerra hit a two-out double to left-center. Next batter, Chandler Castleberry hit an infield single to third, with the throwing attempt to get him out at first going over the fielder's head. Becerra came around to score to make it 3-1 George Mason.
- Next inning, James Moses drew a two-out walk. On a full count, Elijah Dickerson drove a ball to the right field corner for a double, bringing home Moses to pull Towson within one.
- The home team countered in the next half-inning, using four singles in five batters to score two runs and go up 5-2.
- Towson got the two runs back in the seventh, loading the bases with one out on a single and two walks. Dickerson drew a walk to push more a run, then a Jack McLaughlin sacrifice fly brought in another as Towson pulled to within one at 5-4.
- With two out and a man on second in the bottom of the seventh, three consecutive hits each brought home a run, putting the George Mason lead at four.
- Towson had a last gasp in the ninth. With two out and Moses on third, McLaughlin blasted a pitch over the left field wall for a two-run home run. But the next batter was a strikeout as George Mason won the game 8-6.
